A Look at Digital Preservation

CDLC Offices, 28 Essex Street, Albany

Tuesday, September 13th
From 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Today our libraries are filled with many kinds of digital objects and publications, yet most of our libraries are just beginning to grapple with preserving these materials for our users. Many digital preservation tools and guides are aimed at large institutions with resources and expertise rather then the typical library. Come hear some of your colleagues share their practical, real-world ideas and experiences with digital preservation:

Jennifer Fairall, Assistant Librarian, Coordinator of Cataloging and Metadata Services, Siena College & Library of Congress Digital Preservation Outreach and Education (DPOE) Trainer:

Jennifer will introduce the DPOE curriculum for digital materials - Identify, Select, Store, Protect, Manage, and Provide - and discuss the practical application of these concepts in day-to-day work.

Kathryn Frederick, Head of Digital and Collection Services, Lucy Scribner Library, Skidmore College:

Kathryn will talk about setting up a digital preservation plan at Skidmore, workflow and digital preservation on a budget.

Jennifer Palmentiero, Digital Services Librarian & Zachary Spalding, Systems Manager, Southeastern New York Library Resources Council (SENYLRC):

Jen and Zach will discuss the digital preservation and dark storage system they are developing for libraries in the SENYLRC region.
