Capital Area Library Assistants (CALA)
In 1989, the Capital Area Library Assistants (CALA) was formed as a Membership Committee, or interest group, of the Capital District Library Council. CALA focuses on the issues that face library assistants and represents those library employees that do not have a library degree. The interests of the group range from public services to cataloging. The goals for CALA are to enhance communication and interaction between library personnel, to facilitate professional development through programs produced by and for library support staff and to disseminate information on other organizations specifically designed to benefit library staff.
The CALA Coordinating Committee has been a voice for library assistants concerns and issues on a local, state and national level.
CALA has sponsored workshops on issues that have helped to increase the knowledge and skills of our members. As a member of CALA you will be informed of workshops, meeting and conferences that will help you to keep abreast of the newest and latest issues that are important to the library profession. Members of CALA can take advantage of workshops and video teleconferences designed to increase knowledge and skills. The cost of most workshops is $5.00 to $10.00. CALA membership now is approximately 150.
