Documentary Heritage Program - Archives Month
- Archives Month Information Form
- Schedule of Events Archives Month 2007
Archives Month provides an opportunity to engage our local communities in exploring the heritage, culture, and wealth of New York State history through historical documents, photographs and artifacts. New York State's cultural institutions, such as historical societies, libraries, and museums collect and preserve an astounding array of historical materials. Archives Month is a chance to increase public awareness and support of these collections.
Here are some ideas for ARCHIVES MONTH activities:- Hold an open house and provide tours of your facility.
- Mount exhibits using materials from your repository that are of interest to the local community.
- Sponsor a lecture by a researcher who has used your collection. Prepare a cooperative program or display with one or more other repositories in your region.
- Invite school children to visit your repository.
- Engage students in an Archives Week project, such as a essay contest, that encourages them to use historical records from your repository.
- Present a lecture on genealogical research and the sources available.
- Present a film festival using films or videos held by your repository.
- Organize a walking tour of a neighborhood documented by your repository.
