Student Awards 2009
The Capital District Library Council's Sixth Annual Outstanding Student Employee Award ceremony was held Wednesday April 22, 2009 for a group of superb high school and college students working in area libraries.
The students were nominated by their supervisors for the high degree of excellence they have a shown in serving their libraries. Speakers at the event encouraged them to consider pursuing a career in librarianship. High school and college students are eligible for the award based on these qualifications: excellent patron services and interaction with their colleagues; peer leadership; responsibility; attendance; initiative and interest in the field. Supervisors of student employees participate in this program voluntarily when they believe that they have a student employee who is deserving of special recognition.
This year's awardees are: Gregg Rahn (Niskayuna High School) and Tamera Tillman (SUNY Plattsburgh) who worked at the Capital District Library Council during their school breaks and summers; Anna Alvarez of the Castleton Public Library; Alissa Wood of the Crandall Public Library; Carly M. Mason of the Evans Library at Fulton-Montgomery Community College; Danielle Rosenberg, Chelsea Sweet, Tara Surdam and Adrian Yau of The Sage Colleges; Pieter A. Boskin and Meghan M. Haley-Quigley of Union College.
The students were accompanied by their supervisors and parents. In addition to the certificate, the students received a gift from the CDLC and shared in a reception following the event.
It was a lovely event with very deserving students. Many thanks to Master of Ceremonies, CDLC Board President Barbara Beverley; guest speaker, Carol Anne Germain (University at Albany Library); committee members Cara Molyneaux (Union College Library), Sean Conley (Siena College Library), Mary Lindner (The College of St. Rose), Regina Vertone (Albany Memorial and Samaritan Hospitals); and Jean Sheviak, Chris Walker and the staff of the Capital District Library Council.
